Just a quick morning update. A much bigger post and pictures later tonite.
I was in class yesterday morning, which was one of the best so far, and the most useful. Then it was off to the airport to pick up the rental car. That took 2 hours to get there and get back. The counter at the airport was packed as well. However, I did get a Pontiac Vibe, which is the same model as I drive at home, which meant that understanding the car was fine. It's not the tricked out model that mine was, so pick up and acceleration aren't what I expect, but it was fine. I got Lisa, ran to the post office, listened to her stories about the hassle to get a parking pass, and then tooled around the island for about an hour, driving out to the beautiful eastern point, and then north, before coming back through the mountains. It was a fun and exhilarating drive, and I miss having a car for exactly those reasons. But this seems to be likely the only opportunity I will have to keep a car about during this trip. Then it was off to Chinatown for dinner at a very good restaurant. I left Lisa with our dining companions to go off to a Jazz Club that evening, while I drove back to the dorms to rest up and get some work done. That did involve a stop at the local mall (what a zoo!) to get a book for my project, then back to the dorm by 8.
Today its off for a drive around the island again, probably dropping Lisa off at a beach while I head inland a bit to go to the museum at Schofield Barracks. We then need to pick up her boyfriend from the airport around 3 pm, and probably drop him back at the residence. I am not sure what I am going to do, but I do know I need a new belt since mine broke and can't really be fixed. Having lost some weight on this trip, that means more than half my shorts would be drooping if I don't get a belt that works.
Time to grab a shower and get ready to head out around 8:15/8:30 this morning. I promise to post pics (and they are great ones) this evening.
