I finally am in my dorm room/residence for the next three weeks. Frankly, I didn't expect it to be the Ritz, but I am doing alright. In some ways its better than Oxford was, though it is a tad bit warmer, even with the fan going. It should cool off overnight, and it is raining a bit so that might help. Lisa, however, is not making the adjustment so much as I think she was expecting something entirely more upscale than what we are living in. I will post pictures tomorrow. Hell, it has a refrigerator and a flat screen tv, a private bathroom, so I am not complaining. I have certainly lived in less luxurious accommodations. For $38 dollars a night (what I had to pay for one night's lodging before the conference picks up the fee) its not bad at all. Arriving in Honolulu in the dark, a 45 dollar cab ride from the airport (okay, perhaps not that much if they didn't have to wait for us to check in), I can't say much, but I am expecting to be wow'd come morning. I am going to try to get to sleep, but frankly, I am not that tired at the moment.
I did get my computer to work, but I am going to need a longer ethernet cord than the 3' I have at the moment. Typing at an odd angle so the the ethernet cord can reach won't work in the long run. It was bought for hotel desk top ethernet ports, not for ones on the wall. I also need to get some grocery shopping done to try and limit my expenditures a bit. There are washing machines in the basement, but I don't expect to have to do laundry for another 11-12 days.
Anyway, pictures tomorrow and a bit of an update after wandering around and getting to know the place a bit better. Sleep beckons...
